Best Hole Saw Kit for Metal Reviews - (Updated)
1. DEWALT Standard Electricians Bi-Metal Hole Saw Kit
I love the fact that this is a comprehensive kit. You really do get everything you could possibly want with this unit.
Not so Good
Just like all DeWalt products, this bad boy is pricey.
This is a durable set that includes everything you could possibly need to get started in the world of hole saws. There are attachments in this set that can drill a variety of different sizes. All of them are fortified with high-end materials and designed to be used for long periods of time. To that end, they are the perfect gear for contractors or other people that will need to use their hole saws often.
The unit is also available with a handy carrying case. This feature makes it really easy to store and transport your stuff.
The only reason you wouldn’t get this kit is that you can’t afford it. Like all DeWalt products, this unit comes with a pretty substantial price tag.
2. LENOX Tools Hole Saw Kit
This set is extremely tough. You can expect the materials provided here to last for a long time.
Not so Good
Unfortunately, the attachments are fairly limited in their application. If you aren’t working with a Lenox tool you may run into some problems.
The Lenox tools are extremely tough. In fact, the equipment is made with specialty steel that is estimated to last twice as long as comparable products.
This is also a very robust set. You get twenty-six pieces for your money, including an extremely durable case that will make it easy to transport and store.
The only real issue is that the attachments are overly optimized for Lenox tools. I found that when these attachments are used with a product that does not come from Lennox they tend to deteriorate very quickly.
The issue obviously will not be a problem for everyone but it is something to be on the lookout for if you don’t have other Lennox tools equipment.
3. Milwaukee 13-Piece General Purpose Hole Dozer Hole Saw Kit
This is going to be a great product for buyers on a budget.
Not so Good
It’s a bit of a smaller set which limits its versatility pretty sharply.
The Milwaukee set is going to be a great option for buyers that are on a restrictive budget. For a very reasonable price, you get a basic set that will introduce you to the world of hole saw use.
All of the gear is made to be durable and the kit comes with a variety of different sizes to suit every occasion. And, like many of the options on our list, it even includes a handy carrying case that will make the product storage and transportation friendly.
The only real issue is that it isn’t as comprehensive as some of the other sets on our list. If you are looking for the most versatile product you can get your hands on this won’t be it.
4. DRILLPRO 13Pcs HSS Drill Bit Hole Saw Bit Set for Metal
Another great pick for the buyer on a budget. For a multi-piece set, it doesn’t get much cheaper than this.
Not so Good
Unfortunately, the gear in this kit is not extremely durable. If you have lighter needs it will do just fine. Otherwise, you will want to invest in something a little bit tougher.
The Drillpro stands out most for its remarkably affordable price tag. For your money you get thirteen carbide tipped pieces of corrosion fortified steel.
The blades come in a variety of different sizes and can work effectively with a range of different materials.
Unfortunately, though, it is somewhat limited in its application. This is due largely to the fact that the materials just aren't very tough. If you want something that will stand up to the test of time investing a different product.
5. Greenlee Kwik Change Stainless Steel Hole Cutter Kit
If you need something that will last forever this will be a good piece of equipment to consider.
Not so Good
It’s crazy expensive.
This is a small but very well made set. You only get seven pieces here (substantially less than most of the other options) but it does come with a range of handy features. The carbide tipped equipment is designed to reduce erosion and cut through a wide range of tough materials.
You also get a rock hard carrying case for storing and transporting your gear.
When you get right down to it the price is really the only problem. If you have a big budget this will be the right equipment for your needs. However, if you are more limited in what you can spend you will want to focus your attention elsewhere.
6. Bosch 25-Piece Master Bi-Metal Hole Saw Kit HB25M
It’s a great comprehensive set from a company that really knows its stuff.
Not so Good
Bosch is always expensive. This is no exception.
From Bosch, we have a twenty-five piece set that really pulls out all of the stops. It’s a great piece of gear that includes durable pieces in a variety of sizes that will suit nearly any job you could think to throw at them.
The bits are specifically operated to work with wood but they will also be to work with soft metals. In addition to being extremely precise, the bits in this set are also very quick and guaranteed to last a long time when used in cooperation with Bosch tools.
It is also worth mentioning that you get a nice sturdy case with this purchase as well. In short, you get pretty much everything you could want from a hole saw kit all in one convenient package.
Once again, the only real issue is the price. It’s a pretty expensive kit so bear that in mind as you consider the purchase.
7. Hole Saw Kit, Tacklife 16 Pieces 3/4’’-5’’ Full Set
The price would be really hard to beat. If you want something affordable, this will be a solid choice to consider.
Not so Good
The teeth are extremely fragile. You may be able to use these with plastic, but wood and metal will effectively be out. Otherwise, its use at your own risk.
A quick look at the price of this unit will make you wonder if its too good to be true. This is actually the most affordable unit on our list today, which ill be an exciting opportunity for the buyer on a budget.
For the low price, you still get sixteen different bits and a convenient case for carrying your gear around. Unfortunately though, it also comes with some of the issues that you might expect from a product in this price range. Namely, the teeth are extremely fragile.
You will be able to use these bits fo very small tasks, like cutting into soft plastics but anything outside of that will be too much.
It’s still a good product for a certain type of buyer but it is very limited in what it can do.
8. GORCHEN Titanium Hole Saw Cutter Tool Kit Set
The tools provide steady performance at a very fair price.
Not so Good
This is light duty gear. The teeth aren’t big enough for any serious work.
The Gorchen will be good for users that have very limited needs. Still, for the right user, it will serve as a good opportunity. The price is very affordable and for your money you get five titanium saws each sized for different jobs. The package also comes with a carrying case for storage and transportation.
The teeth are tough enough to effectively cut through wood and plastic. While you won’t be able to make big holes (like the kind that are required for installing doors) you will still be able to perform small tasks.
Just bear in mind that the more you push these saws the faster they will go. The blades just aren't properly fortified for high volume work.
Bottom line? It’s good for the amateur DIYer to keep around but it won’t do much for users with heavier needs.
We’ve seen what is out there now let’s take a look at some buying considerations that will help make your ultimate decision a little bit easier.
Your intentions are probably the biggest factor that will go into this decision. Different products are made to do different things. For example if you are just making holes in plastic, you may not need the same kind of tool that can be used for cutting into wood or steel.
When you push saws past their limits, they tend to wear out very quickly. That will be bad for you in that you will be replacing them often and it can also be bad for your workpiece. Improper equipment can actually damage the surface you are trying to work on so be careful.
In general, it is better to buy something that is tougher than you think you will need. After all, a saw that can cut metal will also be able to cut plastic but the reverse is not true. The tougher the saw, the more versatile it may eventually prove to be.
Naturally, everyone will require a saw with a unique size. Fortunately, most sets are sized to appropriately meet the most common uses. For example, if you buy a large size, there will probably be at least one saw that is good for installing doorknobs, as this is a common function of the hole saw.
Of course, you can also always buy specialty sizes ala carte should the need present itself. However, if you invest in a large set, you should find that you are well taken care of for the immediate future.
As you might have noticed, the price can range pretty radically when it comes to this equipment. More money tends to buy you high-quality materials and more blade sizes. However, If you are a do it yourself that is just trying to maintain a well-stocked tool bag it is likely that you can make do with something cheaper. Just bear in mind that it probably will not survive heavy use the same way that higher-end units would.
The material of the blade can also be very impact. In general, titanium tends to be a great all-purpose material for several reasons. For one thing, it is pretty much completely immune to corrosion. No matter what it isn’t going to rust or decay.
It also tends to just be very strong. Titanium is not very likely to break apart over long periods of use. However, you will also likely find that steel does well to suit the needs of the average user. It may not last quite as long but it will be an affordable way to enjoy quality performance for a long period of time.
Of course, it would be difficult to overstate the utility of a high quality carrying case. The carrying case makes it easy to transport and store your equipment. It also just keeps it good condition, which will increase the overall life expectancy of your purchase. Fortunately, most decent sets will come with a carrying case included. However, this is not always the situation.
If getting a case is important to you you will want to pay close attention to this consideration.
Can you use a hole saw on metal?
Yes! The right piece of equipment will definitely be compatible with metal.
Will a diamond hole saw cut steel?
A. While the answer is ultimately contingent on a variety of variables, it is true that many hole saws are able to effectively cut steel.
How do you cut a hole in metal siding?
You do not necessarily need to use any sort of advanced technique to effectively cut metal siding. If you have the right gear, your normal approach will probably be effective.
So, which hole saw review stood out the most? Maybe you want the comprehensive quality of our top choice, the DEWALT D180002 Standard Electricians Bi-Metal Hole Saw Kit.
Then again, maybe you need something a little bit more affordable like the Lennox Tools kit. In short, the list today is loaded with products that meet a wide range of budgets and intentions. Without question, there are options out there that will be suitable for your needs.
